Assignment 8 Pattern
of Interaction in eSpace
I found these patterns of action in my analysis of the email discussion examined previously:
This email type would bring an issue to the attention of the list, performing the role of messenger. Typically, this email would not have all the facts but would alert everyone, in a style that would convey a problem that was serious, but not too much weight would be given so that if the problem turned out to be less serious, credibility would not be lost. Sometimes this email is posed as a question to see if others are experiencing the problem.
This email might come second or third, following up on the initial alert, giving a broader perspective and beginning the discussion of where the solutions might lead.
This email would reinforce previous email, to demonstrate that something is more prevalent than the initial alert showed.
Questioner
This email questions the problem, and asks for solutions in general or some specific action that another emailer might help with.
Information Gather
This email provides solutions to the problem, and possibly specific answers to the Questioner. This might include directions, paths to directions past nodes, and URLs to directions or executables.
Official Announcer
This email would be different in tone from the issue framer or the alerter, having to both re-announce the problem as well as provide official perspective. Because of the official responsibility, as a policy maker for more than those on the list, this email would tend to not give various methods of solutions, instead only giving one method that might be the simplest to cover all concerned.
Information Helper
This email would help the alerter or information gather, with some specific detail or URL to help clarify one point of the earlier discussion. This emailer might not email otherwise, but seeing something left out or not clarified well, would jump in to help.
